Losses in small businesses due to social networks downtime

In El Salvador, small businesses were affected due to the global fall of social networks, many of them sell or offer their products through WhatsApp, Marketplace, Messenger or Instagram.

Buying or selling, is part of everyone's lifestyle, in the country and the world, mobile applications are an important work tool for small merchants that provide services or products, among them are canteens, restaurants, bakeries, parcel services, sale of clothing, shoes, accessories, beauty products, household items, mechanics, among others.

Far beyond leisure and entertainment, the media outlet EFE stated that its experts consider that a "blackout" of social networks such as the one on Monday has very serious economic, social and even personal repercussions, since many of these applications are used as work tools.

In addition, in a digital report of El Salvador, published in february 2021 85.5% search for a product or services by any type of device, 90.4% of people visit a site or an actual online store, 69.4% used a shopping app on a cell phone or tablet, 76.8% bought a product online and 55%.4 bought through a cell phone.

The study notes that in e-commerce usage 30.4% have an account with a financial institution, 5.7% have a credit card, 3.5% have a mobile money account, 5.6% pay bills online.

Also, 4.3% of women have a credit card, 7.3% of men have a credit card, 4.9% of women make online transactions and 6.4% of men make online transactions.

According to ILB media more than half of the population 54.11% use mobile devices for various activities. Some of these activities range from the basics, such as accessing social networks, to making video calls or uploading or transferring files.

In El Salvador, Facebook alone has 3.5 million active users, Instagram has 1.10 million, LinkedIn 510 million and Twitter 446 million.
