Legal Secretariat denies false tax documents circulating in social networks

Written by Karla Gutiérrez

An image of a supposed official correspondence from the Legal Secretariat of the Presidency regarding taxes is circulating in social networks.

This document details the alleged contribution that companies and businesses would have to contribute according to the Economic Recovery Bill, sent on october 24, 2023.

The goods and services that were going to be affected included fuels, legal and accounting offices, medical clinics, pharmacies, laboratories, among other companies and businesses that were going to have to contribute between US$25,000 and US$15,000.

Conan Castro, Legal Secretary of the Presidency, affirmed that this document is false.

In his social networks he published the following:

"Not only are we facing an intentional distortion of reality, but my signature has also been abused, as well as the official seals and badges, with the intention of confusing the population, at a time of electoral deliberation. This act constitutes a serious affectation that will not go unpunished.

I will not hesitate to make use of the necessary legal measures against material falsehood and institutional integrity. In addition, I urge the Honorable Legislative Assembly to interpose the pertinent measures, since it has also been violated. It is unacceptable to continue tolerating the political practices of the past", informed the Legal Secretary.
