Salvadorans will have 60 days to pay their taxes in 7 installments

The Legislative Assembly (AL), approved yesterday with 70 votes a Ley Especial y Transitoria that grants Facilities for the Voluntary Compliance of Tax and Customs Obligations, known as tax amnesty, which seeks to forgive fines, interest and surcharges when paying taxes.

Now salvadorans will have 60 days to comply with the voluntary payment of their tax and customs obligations, in addition they may do so in up to 7 installments to natural and legal taxpayers who have debts with the Ministry of Finance.

For this law applies all those declarations that have not been filed until june 30, 2021, payment may be made in installments or by paying 10% as indicated in the decree and applies to customs and Internal Revenue Directorate General infractions.

This initiative was presented by the minister of Finance, Alejandro Zelaya indicated that with the transitory decree they expect to collect US$25 million, he also indicated that this is one of the strategies that have been implemented for the operation of the anti tax evasion plan.

The minister also expressed last monday that he will seek to recover and audit the US$280 million granted to the municipalities in 2020 during the quarantine by Covid-19, he also said that they have enabled the Dirección General de Impuestos (DGII) and the Dirección General de Aduanas (DGA), for the recovery of these funds.
