In support of the Diaspora, as of the end of november 2023, the Legislative Assembly approved benefits for household goods for all salvadorans who are abroad and wish to return to the country.

Menaje of house means the set of furniture and accessories of a house. To simplify it, this will allow all the goods inside the house, including vehicles, to be imported to El Salvador.

And among the benefits are the tax exemption on imports per family group equivalent to US$70 thousand dollars, the import of 2 vehicles per family group acquired at least 6 months prior to importation.

Among the items are: refrigerators, televisions, cameras, sound equipment, living room and kitchen sets, furniture, among others. (See complete list).

"Household goods is part of the articulated work that we are doing from the Government of President Nayib Bukele, to benefit our Diaspora in support of reverse migration and that they can return all their belongings", said the director of Customs Benjamin Mayorga.

The benefits offered by the menaje de casa, will be in force for one year, under the Special Transitory Law of Incentives and Preferential Treatments Destined to Favor the Repatriation of Salvadorans.

To be a beneficiary of the tax exemption, a procedure must be initiated through the Dirección General de Migración y Extranjería.

As a first step, an affidavit must be subscribed in person before an official of the General Dirección General de Migración y Extranjería, institution empowered to register the address of the persons who will establish their domicile in the country, complying with the provisions contemplated in said law.
