CEL seeks to delimit and protect the firm lands of the Cerrón Grande Reservoir

Written by Evelyn Alas

This week, the team of the Comisión Ejecutiva Hidroeléctrica del Río Lempa (CEL) began a plan to stake out property boundaries in the northern area of the Cerrón Grande Reservoir wetland, in order to delimit and protect its firm and fluctuating lands.

In the first phase, we are intervening 6.3 kilometers and we seek to guarantee the good use of the land, avoiding: illegal occupations, subleases, deforestation, soil and water contamination.

Currently, the lands are managed by 46 Cooperative Associations, which are dedicated to artisanal fishing, agriculture and cattle raising.

Together with them, the CEL team has installed more than 500 concrete pillars, in addition to the placement of live fences and signs to delimit the property.

The pilot plan will last 2 months and will be replicated in the rest of the land near the reservoirs.
