CEL and LAGEO awarded 80 scholarships for young people to pursue technical careers

The Comisión Ejecutiva Hidroeléctrica del Río Lempa (CEL) and LAGEO, through FUNDAGEO, awarded more than 80 new scholarships to young people from all over the country so they can pursue technical and university careers, as part of the LAGEOBECAS project.

The beneficiaries are students with good academic performance and great desire to excel who, for the moment, do not have the economic resources to continue their higher education and who live near our geothermal plants, located in the municipalities of Ahuachapán and Berlín, as well as future projects such as the Chinameca geothermal plant.

"This initiative in favor of education was born in 2019 and since then, FUNDAGEO has awarded 2,060 scholarships, with which we have boosted the dreams of hundreds of young people of scarce resources, who want to be someone in life", said Stephanie Daboub, executive director of FUNDAGEO.

The scholarships are intended for university studies at the national level and are divided into two modalities: full and partial, applicable to careers such as engineering, undergraduate, doctorate, architecture, technical careers and diplomas.

The benefits granted include financial support for the payment of university fees and expenses associated with the careers chosen by the scholarship holders, as well as accompaniment in their student process.

I am pleased to see their enthusiasm and determination with which they want to fulfill their goals and believe me that, from CEL as majority partner of LAGEO and through FUNDAGEO, we will continue to support them on this path", said Daniel Alvarez, president of CEL.

It is important to note that the beneficiaries’ range in age from 15 to 56 years old, and within this universe, 67% are women and 33% are men.

The LAGEOBECAS program will help to generate favorable spaces to insert the scholarship holders more productively in society through their technical and university training, to enhance their skills and motivate them to become actors of change and thus, achieve a better Tejido Social.
