The attention of travelers at the Aeropuerto Internacional de El Salvador San Óscar Arnulfo Romero y Galdámez continues to grow steadily, after surpassing the figures of 2019, catalogued as the year of pre-pandemic, when tourism stagnated worldwide.

"The airport is the gateway that connects the world with a new El Salvador. From january 1 to april 23, 2023, we have attended 11,574 commercial passenger flights 1,213,752 inbound, outbound, connections and transshipment passengers", confirmed the Comisión Ejecutiva Portuaria Autónoma (CEPA).

In fact, this amount exceeds by approximately 7.4% the number of travelers served at the air terminal between january 1 and april 30 of last year, when 1,124,209 incoming, outgoing, transit and connections travelers were registered.

This improved performance in the number of travelers has been greatly influenced, among other causes, by the increase of foreign tourists who are increasingly visiting El Salvador, thanks to the new climate of total security that now prevails in the country, originated by the successful fight against gangs, through the Plan Control Territorial and the exception regime.

According to CEPA's projections, this year is expected to exceed the 3.5 million travelers that were attended during 2022, which is also reinforced with the goal of international visitors that the Ministro de Turismo has proposed to reach this year, which is estimated at 2.9 million people.

To improve the mobilization of these volumes of travelers, last year the Government expanded the passenger terminal with an investment of US$56 million and, this year, 40 more positions will be added to the passenger check-in area.
