Assembly approves more than US$5 million for public space improvements

Written by Karla Gutiérrez

With 66 votes, the members of the Legislative Assembly reformed the General Budget Law 2024 to incorporate resources to the Ministerio de Obras Públicas y Transporte (MOPT).

According to what was stated in the 151st plenary session, the US$5,500,000,000 that will be disbursed will serve to increase tourism development in the country and support the Central Government's strategy that seeks to execute and follow up on activities that generate an increase in the referred item.

To meet this objective, the MOPT will be able to intervene in various plazas, green areas, or other public spaces, at the national level, that serve for the development of the area and thus improve the added value of these.

How will this money be distributed?

Of the US$5,500,000,000 that the MOPT will have, US$3 million will be used to intervene in different places of the national territory and thus harmonize the cities with scenic landscapes.

These will be focused on the natural flora of the country, mainly from the planting of the national tree Maquilishuat, as it fits perfectly with the ecosystem, according to studies carried out.

In addition, US$1.5 million will be used for the intervention of the sports venues, while US$1.0 million will be allocated for the project to be implemented at CEPA at the request of that institution.
