Assembly approves $84 million IDB loan for CEPA

The deputies of the Legislative Assembly approved a loan with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in the amount of US$84 million.

According to what was discussed in the 151st plenary session, this money will be used to execute the "Commercial Facilitation and Port Operation Modernization Program in El Salvador". That is why a total of 70 parliamentarians voted in favor.

According to what was discussed in the plenary session, the loan will have a 25-year term, starting on the date of signing the contract with the IDB. In addition, the first amortization installment will be paid in the next 66 months, under installments that will be paid semi-annually and consecutively.

The financing has four components in which the financial resources will be granted. The first is a US$59 million contract, which will be used to improve the operation of the Port of Acajutla, to optimize its land services, improve equipment, technology, and infrastructure, and support the Comisión Ejecutiva Portuaria Autónoma (CEPA) in its management.

The second component has an investment of US$12 million, with which the development of a modern digital ecosystem and transparency in foreign trade is planned.

The third component is for US$10 million and involves improving the digitalization of customs control through technological solutions.

And the fourth and last component allocates US$3 million in resources for the development of activities that enable the execution of activities, such as audits and the proper use of resources, training, and more.
