Foreign Ministry presents progress of the Labor Mobility Program in virtual event with U.S. agency specialized in organic agriculture

The development opportunities for Salvadorans, through the Labor Mobility Program, promoted by the Foreign Ministry, were presented in the webinar entitled: "Learn from seasonal agricultural labor through the H2-A migrant worker program", organized by the Iowa Organic Association (IOA), a non-profit state entity that promotes education and organic cooperation in agriculture.

On behalf of El Salvador, the director of Diaspora and Development, Gerardo Pérez, presented the progress of this initiative of the Government of President Nayib Bukele, which promotes orderly, safe and regular migration.

The purpose of the virtual event was to present the program and the skills of national human talent in the agricultural sector to this organization, which is made up of organic farmers, food and agricultural companies in Iowa, United States.

During this space, the Foreign Ministry official presented general aspects of the Labor Mobility Program, which to date has placed more than 9 thousand people in temporary jobs in different companies in the United States.

Currently, there are more than 25 thousand salvadoran candidates to work in the agricultural sector, always under this labor mobility scheme.

Thus, he mentioned the agricultural products in which our human talent is involved, among them, corn, vegetables, lettuce, fruits, rice, beans, coffee and sugar.

He also pointed out that once the compatriots benefit from this program, they invest the resources obtained in the purchase of housing, payment of debts, setting up their own businesses, and education.

In the same context, Director Perez mentioned that the national labor force has skills in inventory control, land preparation, use of machinery, knowledge of plants and soils, vegetable cultivation, teamwork, grain harvesting, among others.

Likewise, the Foreign Ministry representative expanded information on the personnel recruitment processes so that U.S. employers can opt for our people.

Also participating in this event were the head of the USAID Economic Competitiveness Project, Luis Soto, and the USAID program manager, Rodrigo Seda, who also referred to the agricultural experience of the Salvadorans and the impact of the program among the beneficiary population.
