Commission seeks to regulate working hours for Fire Department's operating personnel

Written by Karla Gutiérrez

Deputies of the Legislation and Constitutional Points Commission approved a favorable opinion to reform the Law of the Fire Department of El Salvador, in order to regulate the working hours of the firefighters of this institution.

The update of the regulation seeks to establish 24-hour work shifts, with the corresponding breaks to consume food, and they will have a 72-hour rest between each shift.

This is due to the fact that the essential public services provided by the operatives of the Fire Department are 48-hour uninterrupted shifts and they rest five days between shifts.

In other words, with this update, the services provided by the personnel of this institution that attends to various emergencies will not be interrupted, as they help to safeguard and protect people's lives.

In addition, the amendment -which will consist of adding a second clause to Article 25 of the regulation- will clearly establish the roles of the operating personnel in relation to the nature of the functions of said institution, because the workers' schedules must be in accordance with the services rendered to the population.

Development of a wastewater treatment plant

The parliamentarians also endorsed an opinion in which they seek to authorize the Comisión Ejecutiva Hidroeléctrica del Río Lempa (CEL) to transfer as a donation a property in favor of the municipal mayor's office of Carolina, located in the department of San Miguel.

The purpose of this concession is to develop the operation of a wastewater treatment plant in that municipality.
