CEL generates electricity at maximum level

Written by Miguel Crespin

The Comisión Ejecutiva Hidroeléctrica del Río Lempa (CEL), is taking preventive measures in all dams in the country, to avoid disasters in the rivers that help produce electricity for salvadoran homes.

In its social network accounts CEL announced that it is working at maximum power in all power production plants, this due to the approach of storm Pilar, which is likely to generate a considerable increase of water in the rivers, which before the rise of its flow could flood several blocks of land in the surrounding area.

Therefore, the entity in charge of generating energy has decided not to carry out spillway discharges in the short term, which consist of the release of water that is accumulated in the dams and that every certain period is released to maintain the water levels in the rivers.

At the time of these water discharges, CEL alerts the communities that live near the rivers, so that they are prepared for the increase in volume of the aquifers at the time of discharge.

However, due to the current emergency situation, the authorities have decided not to accumulate much water in the dams, due to the constant storms that are being registered in the eastern part of the country, which could cause floods affecting homes and agricultural land in the areas of San Miguel, Usulután, among other departments.
