Fintech: understand what they are and how to take advantage of the financial services they offer

Written by Karla Gutiérrez

What are fintechs?

In a nutshell, fintechs are companies or even ventures focused on the use of innovative and disruptive technological resources within the financial segment.

Their name derives, precisely, from "fin" for finance and "tech" for technology it is nothing more than the combination of finance and technology.

The intention of these companies is to offer financial services in a democratic, flexible, fast, and available way, as well as to operate in various world markets, both for users of this line of business and to design efficient solutions for companies.

What are the sectors for fintechs?

As is evident, the fintech industry has been expanding more and more over the last few years.

However, their impact has reached several sectors that are worth recognizing:

  • Lending: through private or collective financing platforms, such as crowdfunding.
  • Mobile banking: allowing users to access a diverse number of financial services from their cell phones.
  • Blockchain: a relatively young segment that emerged from the emergence of cryptocurrencies, which enables users to exchange goods in a shared network visible to all.
  • Investments: through investment platforms where individuals and companies can access stock markets, even taking advantage of the power of Artificial Intelligence to make decisions.
  • Digital payments: the main sector of fintech, giving users channels and means of payment with immediate payment options for products and services without intermediaries.
