Indufoam an example of sustainable industry

Written by Karla Gutiérrez

Indufoam is a leading company in the manufacture of beds, bedding accessories and living room furniture, which promotes a responsible industry model that generates pride by operating sustainably and under the vision of continuous innovation.

With more than four decades of experience, Indufoam continues to set the standard by investing in cutting-edge technology and eco-friendly materials to manufacture high quality products, which enjoy acceptance in the national and international market.

The ergonomic bed production plant is one of the most innovative, eco-friendly, and sustainable in Latin America, which has allowed Indufoam to enjoy the recognition of customers, associated suppliers, and the community.

Indufoam operates under the circular economy model, adopting in its processes the 3Rs, Reduce, Recycle and Reuse, thanks to the use of state-of-the-art technology that allows it to take maximum advantage of raw materials and reuse the leftovers in the production process.

"Our vision is to consolidate ourselves as a green and conscious company in the use of resources", René Toruño, president of Indufoam.

"Nothing is discarded, fabrics, foams, water, everything is reused. Currently, 85% of the steel used to manufacture the springs for the mattresses is recycled steel, and very soon it will be 100%. We also use fabrics made from recycled yarns and plastics recovered from the sea, contributing to the SEAQUAL initiative", said José Roberto Gutiérrez, commercial director of Indufoam.

The company has been using renewable energy for production for seven years. This is generated by solar panels installed on the roofs of the plant and offices, reducing the company's environmental impact by more than 4,200 tons of carbon footprint per year.

Also, the wood it imports for its products is certified with the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) and comes from renewable forests in Canada. It has also implemented bio-degradable packaging in all its sleep accessories.

Recently, the company has become a biodiversity-friendly ecosystem, having built a water reservoir that captures rainwater, which previously flooded the community. Now, in addition to being inhabited by fish, it is a resting area for migratory birds.
