Written by Evelyn Alas

The Chancellor of the Republic, Alexandra Hill, and the Minister of Housing, Michelle Sol, formalized today a Memorandum of Understanding that will allow both institutions to join capacities and work hand in hand for the benefit of the salvadoran population returning or at risk of irregular migration.

Through this agreement, both government ministries are committed to carry out immediate actions to facilitate access to housing and other housing solutions for people in this vulnerable condition, thus generating roots in their places of origin.

The diplomat explained that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will make available its platform of Integral Windows of Attention to People in Mobility, distributed throughout the national territory, to reach those who are eligible under this initiative.

She added that this inter-institutional commitment responds to the fact that many of the returnees or those at risk of emigrating state that, as part of their future plans, they are looking for housing for themselves and their families.

In this way, they are taking a new step towards achieving, in our country, a better future and working for the benefit of migrants, as was entrusted to us in the Plan Cuscatlán.

Minister Sol expressed her satisfaction at being part of this inclusive project. "A house is the basis for the family and it is a root for those who return to the country. For this reason, we open the doors so that they can have their own home, through different options", she said.

This measure is in addition to others, such as the “Transformando vidas” Program, with which the Ministry of Foreign Affairs promotes opportunities for psychosocial and productive reintegration, as well as development and welfare for the returned population in their localities.
