Ministry of Housing files complaint for scams

Written by Denis Muñoz

In a recent publication in her social networks, the minister of Housing, Michelle Sol, announced that this Friday she formally filed a complaint before the Fiscalía General de la República (FGR).

The accusation is directed against individuals who, without any permission, used the logo of the "Fondo Social para la Vivienda" to fraudulently sell properties, which constitutes a crime of Violation of Commercial Distinctive.

Michelle Sol detailed that these acts were discovered after identifying on social networks several groups that falsely presented themselves as "partners" of the government institution, even though the minister herself has clarified that "as an institution, we do not work with real estate companies".

Reports on social networks indicate that those involved were promoting what they called "recovered" housing from financial institutions, including the Fondo Social para la Vivienda itself. Interested parties were induced to make reservations with payments of close to US$5,000, which supposedly included a promise of sale, thus setting up a scenario conducive to a scam.
