Congressmen seek to guarantee gas price stability to the population

Written by Evelyn Alas

Given the variation of international oil prices, which generates an economic burden for the population, the Economy Commission approved a favorable opinion to reform the Law Regulating the Deposit, Transportation and Distribution of Petroleum Products, with the objective that the sale price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is not made arbitrarily.

The request was made by deputies of Nuevas Ideas, in order to protect the pocket of salvadorans, as well as micro, small and medium companies.

The reform project establishes that the Ministry of Economy, through the General Directorate of Energy, Hydrocarbons and Mines, will be granted the control and surveillance over the prices of liquefied gas, both for domestic consumption and for subsistence businesses.

Congressman William Soriano emphasized that the sense of the reforms is of importance for salvadorans, due to the rising prices of this product worldwide.

"At the initiative of the president, we have approved on several occasions that there are subsidies in force for this product, but we have realized that there are some actors in the supply or distribution chain that are making these products more expensive even though they are being subsidized", said Soriano.

For the legislators it is important to update the regulatory framework in reference to the pricing system of the LPG commercialization chain.
