The initiative was issued with the purpose of mitigating the high prices generated by global inflation in the basic food basket, as well as in other products of high demand by salvadoran families.
These transitory laws will help to maintain the tax exoneration on the importation of basic food basket products and continue with the surveillance and control of the market.
This is the second time that parliamentarians seek to extend this measure that has relieved the pockets of salvadorans since march 2022.
Some of the products to which the Derecho Arancelario a la Importación (DAI) should no longer be reported are milk, potatoes, tomatoes, beans, meat, bananas, rice, flour, oils, vegetables, animal feed, fertilizers and fertilizers, different types of meat, chicken eggs, among others.
The exoneration of taxes on foreign purchases of inputs necessary for the preparation of food contributes to reduce costs in the commercialization chain, and thus, prices to the final consumer are reduced. To ensure that suppliers will pass this benefit on to their customers, the Government will continue with strict inspections in stores.
