The country has received US$1.189 billion in foreign currency from tourism

According to the minister of Tourism, Morena Valdez, the country has received US$1,189 million in foreign exchange, this is equivalent to an increase of 43%, compared to 2019, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We received more foreign exchange earnings, because the visitors who came stayed longer and spent more", said the official, who highlighted the realization of surf tournaments to position the country as a tourist destination have allowed El Salvador to gain more and more prestige as a first class option.

Recently, the Ministerio de Turismo informed that 1.1 million international tourists arrived to the country during the first semester of this year. North American visitors are the ones who have entered the country the most, and thanks to these figures, this category reports a 92% recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We received 76% more visitors from North America. This has been due to the surfing tournaments that have been held", Valdez said.

The head of Tourism said that businessmen and traders in the area of La Libertad recognize that since the inauguration of the road "Camino a Surf City" their sales have increased and added that the Ministerio de Obras Públicas is working on the tourist viewpoints of the road.

Valdez highlighted that it is planned to invest 106 million dollars for the eastern zone of El Salvador, which will be positioned through the web site: elsalvador.travel.

El Salvador has been the most visited country in Latin America during the first quarter of this year, according to the firm specialized in the tourism industry Forward Keys and this confirms the data that the Central Government has achieved a recovery of the sector in record time.
