MITUR and the World Food Program inaugurate Gastro-Lab in Santa Ana

The joint work between the Ministry of Tourism, the World Food Program (WFP) and strategic alliances with the Universidad Francisco Gavidia (UFG), restaurants and hotels, will allow youth to have access to professional training for free. 

This laboratory is the second in the country, the first was installed in Surf City La Libertad in 2021, and has already graduated more than 120 young people in two promotions, more than 70% of whom have been able to enter the labor market.

"The western area of the country is an important and constantly growing tourist pole, so we are responding to the need of the business sector to have trained personnel, which will improve the competitiveness of the destination", said the Minister of Tourism, Morena Valdez. 

The representative and country director of the World Food Program in El Salvador, Riaz Lodhi, said: "We are pleased to join efforts with the government, Universidad Francisco Gavidia and the private sector to continue providing opportunities for youth and improve their food security. This projec is for salvadorans, and strengthens sustainable food systems by encouraging the restaurants where the youth work to offer nutritious recipes and consume food produced by local farmers".

Gastro-Lab is the culinary training project for young people, from 2021, the initiative is conducive to culinary practices, equipped with stoves, ovens, fryers, griddles, among other inputs required to be able to project themselves in the professional kitchen for the proper handling of food.

Recently, President Bukele announced Circuit 2 of Surf City in the eastern zone, where not only first class tourist infrastructure will be built, but also human strengthening is important for this government, so a gastronomic laboratory (Gastro-Lab) will be built in the east of El Salvador.
