El Salvador opens cruise season with the arrival of the Scenic Eclipse

The luxury cruise ship Scenic Eclipse of the U.S. cruise line Scenic Cruise Lines, docked at the Port of Acajutla for the first time, as a result of the strategies to attract ships led by the Comisión Ejecutiva Portuaria Autónoma (CEPA) with the Ministry of Tourism and CORSATUR.

The cruise ship, 6 stars, is considered of high standard in terms of technology, size and luxury, and arrives to the country with more than 250 foreigners (passengers and crew). The cruise passengers, mostly from the United States and Canada, have a high purchasing power, and will enjoy the tourist attractions that El Salvador has to offer, among them: Joya de Cerén, San Andrés, San Julian, Sonsonate and Acajutla.

The Minister of Tourism, Morena Valdez, together with the President of CEPA, Federico Anliker, were in charge of welcoming the cruise passengers and exchanging plaques, as part of the industry's tradition, when they dock for the first time.

The head of Tourism explained that the tours will be carried out by a tour operator with a high level of experience in attending cruise ships of this type, which allows the dynamization of the tourism value chain, from the private company to the local economy.

"With this cruise we open the season that extends until may 2023. This is the first cruise of the season. For the last quarter of 2022 we expect 4 more cruises", explained the Minister of Tourism, Morena Valdez.

During the administration of the Central Government, El Salvador continues to take firm steps towards its economic development, under a tourism approach, positioning itself in the cruise industry market.  

"The work done by the Central Government in the good management of the pandemic and all the security strategies implemented, have allowed a greater confidence of tourists to travel and visit our country", said the president of CEPA, Federico Anliker.

The cruise ship departed last September 28th, from San Diego, California, as part of a tour of 9 touches (arrivals), being El Salvador the sixth stop. The vessel will remain in the country for eight hours and will set sail for Nicaragua and Costa Rica to continue its route.

With the arrival of Scenic Cruise Lines, El Salvador inaugurates the cruise season that begins in october 2022 and ends in may 2023, during this period is projected to receive more than 10 cruise ships.
