CABEI and Republic of El Salvador formalize US$500 thousand donation to address damages caused by Hurricane Bonnie

Authorities of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) and the Ministerio de Obras Públicas (MOP) of El Salvador, signed a non-refundable cooperation agreement this thursday as emergency aid, for up to US$500,000 to contribute to the implementation of the necessary measures to address the effects and damages caused by Hurricane Bonnie in july.

The donation is expected to benefit more than 1,500 people and institutions affected by the hurricane which, after its passage through the country, caused structural damage to drainage systems, collapsed walls, damaged road infrastructure, and affected agricultural crops, among others.

"As CABEI, we respond in a timely and efficient manner to the needs of Central Americans and to any emergencies that may arise. We are pleased to be able to provide this support to the MOP to mitigate the negative impacts caused by this natural phenomenon", said CABEI Executive President Dante Mossi.

The resources of this non-reimbursable cooperation may be used for medical attention and the purchase of goods for primary use; the purchase of inputs, materials and labor for construction and other damaged infrastructure, as well as the purchase of agricultural inputs for the recovery of crops, among others.

The funds will be executed by the MOP, which will be in charge of following up on all matters related to this cooperation, which is framed within the CABEI Emergency and Natural Disaster Assistance Regulations under the emergency assistance modality.
