Foreign Ministry and Innovation Secretariat present Online Payment Platform for services abroad

Written by Evelyn Alas

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Innovation Secretariat of the Presidency presented the Online Payment Platform for services provided by the Consular Network of El Salvador, an option that is more in line with the needs of the people.

This tool was presented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alexandra Hill and the Undersecretary of Innovation, Fabrizio Mena, who gave details of the advantages and operation of the system.

"The Online Payment Platform will allow our compatriots to pay for consular services with debit or credit cards, from any device, anywhere in the world", said Foreign Minister Hill.

Thus, the user can access portalcitas.rree.gob.sv a website that schedules online the services requested by the compatriots to the salvadoran consular network.

The payment option was incorporated to this platform, which is reflected through a pop-up window that will request the data of the credit or debit card, which can be national or international. After that, the user can cancel the requested service and immediately obtain a payment receipt, which can be printed or captured virtually.

Thanks to this advance, the user will be able to cancel in advance passports, Family Registry documents, powers of attorney and AFP refunds.

"Today marks a before and an after; in the past, users were even asked to bring exact amounts of money so as not to have to give change, and if they did not, the process they needed so much was not carried out", said minister Hill.

The Undersecretary of Innovation highlighted the advantages of the system, which is reliable, user-friendly and express.

"We will continue to develop more projects that add to the digital transformation and modernization of the State for the benefit of all salvadorans residing inside and outside our borders. Step by step, we continue to build the El Salvador we deserve", said Undersecretary Mena.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with the Secretariat of Innovation, has implemented a series of improvements for the attention of Salvadorans living abroad, who are the focus of all institutional efforts.

Likewise, the Appointment Portal was activated, an electronic space from where the different services of the consular offices are managed to avoid long lines and long waiting times.

Less than a week ago, the User Service Monitoring System was also launched, where compatriots can share detailed comments on all aspects related to the service they received, and thus improve their experience at consular offices.

Likewise, Minister Hill said that passport delivery times have been reduced. "To date, with great joy we can say that in 13 countries around the world we have already implemented the immediate delivery of this document, where this process now takes a maximum of 45 minutes, when before it took several weeks", said the head of the salvadoran diplomacy.

Only in 2021, 350 thousand passports were delivered, documents that were extended thanks to the opening hours throughout our network of consulates and mobile days to bring services to salvadorans who reside far from our consulates.

"I am grateful for this inter-institutional effort that has made it possible to transform the attention to salvadorans abroad in simple, easy processes and hand in hand with technology", concluded Minister Hill.

The Vice Minister of Diaspora and Human Mobility, Cindy Mariella Portal, also participated in the activity.
