U.S. Embassy launches "Skills for Employment" project

The U.S. Embassy is launching the "Skills for Employment" project, funded by the U.S. Government through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).

The "Skills for Employment" project has a funding of $28 million dollars for the period 2023-2028, and aims to optimize and increase employment opportunities for more than 12 thousand young people.

In addition, this job training project will help place four thousand people in better or new jobs in El Salvador.

In the second quarter, formal employment grew above the average of the last decades; according to data from the Banco Central de Reserva (BCR), as of may 2023, there were 970,604 workers contributing to the Instituto Salvadoreño del Seguro Social (ISSS).

Private sector employment grew by 4.3%; that is, 31,864 contributors were added, while the public sector grew by 2.0%, adding 3,931 contributors.

However, many young people are unemployed and this project will provide an opportunity for more than 12 thousand young people to obtain formal employment.

The launching of the project was presided by the Ambassador of the United States in El Salvador, William H. Duncan; the minister of Education, José Mauricio Pineda; the minister of Economy, María Luisa Hayem. Also present were representatives of government entities, training centers, private enterprise and civil society organizations.
