The incentive has benefited 338 fishermen and their families, as a joint effort of the Centro Nacional para el Desarrollo de la Pesca y la Acuacultura (CENDEPESCA), the Ministerio de Turismo de El Salvador (MITUR), the Ministerio de Obras Públicas y Transporte (MOPT) and the Ministerio de Defensa Nacional.
These actions reaffirm the support for the fishing sector, which after the closure of the dock at the Port of La Libertad has been left adrift, without its main source of income.
The pier has been closed for almost 4 months due to the strong waves of september 2, 2023, which caused significant damage to the structure of the pier, however, it was repaired, but remained closed, in addition the National Navy ordered the suspension of activities, such as the departure of boats and the arrival of tourists to the pier, this has generated uncertainty in the fishing industry.
CENDEPESCA affirmed that it will continue working to guarantee that the fishing and aquaculture sectors belonging to its administration have the necessary support and are allowed to continue with their activities, for the welfare and food security of salvadoran families.
