In order to reduce food vulnerability in the country, parliamentarians approved, with 64 votes, the Integral Agricultural Commercialization Law. This law seeks to regulate activities to improve productivity, profitability and competitiveness of agribusinesses and balance the price of agricultural products.

What does this law include?

This regulation contemplates the creation of the National Agricultural Supply System to connect all the activities of the sector, from production to the final consumer.

It also includes the creation of the Centro de Desarrollo de Comercio Agropecuario (CDCA) to be in charge of agro-production policy and price setting, supply management and actions to have an agricultural reserve.

"Today, this project is added to the government's strategy, which generates a before and after, because today the whole productive chain of our country is integrated", said Congressman Ricardo Rivas.

Norma Lobo, a member of Congress, stated that "Agriculture was abandoned for many years and has suffered several blows. We have had repercussions in agriculture due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been an increase in agricultural inputs, but we are betting on the growth of this sector".

The official added that with this new marketing system, markets will be opened in which producers and cooperatives will be able to offer their sales. Lobo said that the law is comprehensive, seeks to support agriculture and reduce imports of food products, because it must ensure that the country has its own food.
