Defensoría del Consumidor has recovered US$19 million and benefited 222,859 consumers by the end of 2021

The President of the Defensoría del Consumidor, Ricardo Salazar, informed that the institution has recovered more than US$19.5 million, benefiting 222,859 consumers, according to the summary of results of the management carried out during the year 2021.

Salazar highlighted that 67.1 % of the amounts recovered, equivalent to $13.1 million, in the period from january to december 2021, corresponds to 42 collective cases that benefited 213,454 users.

Among the sectors with the highest number of complaints were financial services 33%, real estate 15% and telecommunications 17%, the report shows that there were in individual complaints closed, in addition there was a refund in favor of 9,405 consumers.

The institution attended 100,784 consumers who sought support to exercise and defend their rights, managing to recover US$52.9 million for the benefit of salvadorans and 33% of the attention corresponds to the financial sector, with 32,777 complaints, in cases of credit and savings accounts.

Among the achievements of this year are the activation of the Virtual Conciliation program and the "Agenda tu cita" mechanism to facilitate the resolution of consumer disputes between consumers and suppliers.

Of the 5,424 inspections carried out during the year by the Defensoría del Consumidor, three findings of non-compliance were detected. These were: expired products (17,771); products without price in sight (1,999) and products without expiration date (1,557).

They also verified the labeling of scales in 286 non-automatic weighing instruments, identifying compliance in 55.94 % of these, while 44.1 % did not comply.
