The general secretary of the Sindical de Trabajadores y Trabajadores de El Salvador (CSTS), Maricarmen Molina and the vice-president of the Asociación General de Empleados Públicos y Municipales de El Salvador (AGEPYM), Jaime Avalos, were in a morning interview in which they expressed that the informal sector must be included in the pension system.

Maricarmen Molina of CSTS, expressed that there are approximately 700 thousand workers who are outside the pension system and they are also proposing the creation of a tripartite pension institute in which there is representation of the Central Government, workers and employers.

Likewise, the representative of CSTS said that they are proposing to provide a Universal Pension which would include senior citizens, housewives and self-employed workers.

Jaime Avalos, vice-president of AGEPYM, pointed out that they are requesting an increase in the contribution from the employer sector, as one of the measures to achieve a replacement rate of 70%.

The AGEMPYM leader expressed that the population should not withdraw the money that will serve them in their old age. "Asking for a 25% pension advance is a trap, workers do not only withdraw money, they also withdraw work time", he said.

He indicated that the country needs to have a better financial education so that people have knowledge of how pension money is invested and thus achieve better replacement rates, it is necessary to dignify the pension of workers.
