Cost of school supplies down compared to 2023 prices

According to some school supplies vendors, prices have decreased compared to 2023 and it is expected that salvadorans will save a little with these new costs.

Corn and beans were the grains with the greatest losses in the 2023-2024 agricultural cycle, since all the adversities for the sector came together, such as: the high cost of inputs, labor shortages, the cost of land rental doubled, and natural phenomena that generated losses of more than US$82 million.

Propane gas increase in early 2024

The Dirección de Energía, Hidrocarburos y Minas has announced the prices of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) for the month of january 2024, showing a significant increase to december 2023 prices.

 

The minister of Labor Rolando Castro has visited the entire country promoting the Gira por el Empleo with businessmen and subsequently obtaining the hiring of new human talent that will contribute to the economic growth of El Salvador.

Ricardo Salazar, president of the Defensoría del consumidor, after the deployment of inspections in different commercial points of the country, informed that since last week high prices have been found due to speculation in some fruits and vegetables. Therefore, an investigation process has been activated against suppliers engaged in the import, production and marketing of tomatoes, carrots, beets and cucumbers.

Price inflation in El Salvador remains with an annual margin of 2.11%, which is 5.22 percentage points less than the one registered in 2022 that stood at 7.32%. This implies a lower price compared to last year.

At a national level to protect the pockets of salvadorans, teams from the Defensoría del Consumidor, inspect wholesale and retail stores, in order to avoid speculation and unjustified price increases in vegetables and fruits.

In the modern economy, the prices of goods purchased daily or of services used tend to change with some frequency. Inflation refers to the increase in the prices of goods and services over a period, or in other words, the decrease in the value of money with respect to the amount of goods and services to be purchased with it.
