The Digital Declaration report "Navigating the era of responsible business leadership in today's world" shows how Digital Declaration signatories are turning their aspirations into concrete actions and how technology can foster an inclusive, trusted and innovative digital society for all.

MILLICOM: building digital highways that connect people, improve lives and develop communities.

Conversation with Mauricio Ramos, CEO Millicom

1.Millicom has been guided by its purpose of building digital highways that connect people, improve lives and develop communities. Explain how these social values have been integrated into the company's purpose.

At Millicom | TIGO, we build critical infrastructure in the form of digital highways that enable connectivity in the markets we serve, leading responsibly to foster an environment where our employees, customers and communities can thrive and reach their full potential.

And as we fulfill our purpose of building these digital highways, we leverage innovation to create a brighter future in our markets.

We work hard to help our communities overcome connectivity barriers, such as lack of coverage (especially in rural areas), affordability and unfamiliarity with digital tools, so they can access the digital world and achieve technological breakthroughs. And when these challenges are addressed, we all benefit as a society.

2. How has Millicom incorporated its purpose and values into its corporate strategy across the organization, and how is it measured?

We often see that many companies focus solely on business results without realizing the need for a social purpose. I feel fortunate to lead a company whose success is so organically tied to our purpose.

Our success and future are intertwined with that of the countries in which we operate. Only the successful deployment of high-speed networks will create robust digital economies that are fit for the future.

And what makes me most proud and excited about how TIGO contributes to our markets is the energy we channel through our business. This energy goes toward fulfilling a purpose that benefits our four key stakeholders-from our investors and customers to our employees and communities.

We have come a long way in our efforts to invest in the networks that enable connectivity, but even so, only 60% of Latin Americans have a 4G mobile connection, and on average only 30% to 40% of the population has fixed broadband. Therefore, we have a great responsibility to continue to do our part to connect the unconnected.

And in today's important conversation about environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles, I can say without a doubt that ESG is driving our purpose and serves as our guiding star. And as we fulfill our purpose, we become stronger and even more proud of what we do.

Through our ESG work, we seek to manage risks, seize opportunities, create positive impacts and build relationships to foster the conditions we need to thrive in the short and long term. That's why it has become increasingly important to our investors, many of whom are long-time advocates in the field.

I firmly believe that the only way to prosper as a company over the long term is to not only continue to deliver strong financial performance, but also to continue to make a positive contribution to society by fulfilling our purpose of building digital highways that connect people, improve lives and develop communities.

3. Could you provide us with some examples of programs that show how you are turning your commitments into actions?

Guided by our ESG principles, we focus the power of TIGO's digital highways on programs that drive greater economic, social and educational opportunities in the markets we serve through flagship programs that aim to empower people and promote social good.

These include: o Conéctate Segur@, which focuses on helping children explore, learn and grow digitally safely through essential educational tools about the risks and opportunities of digital technology. Through Conéctate Segur@, we have trained 600,000 children and adolescents, 146,000 parents and caregivers, and 155,000 teachers with Child Online Protection (COP) training in the markets where we operate. Our employees have volunteered a total of 98,000 hours for this important mission since 2017.

With the exceptional increase in online usage due to virtual schooling in the midst of the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, we developed and implemented the Maestr@s Conectad@s program, providing practical tools and strengthening teachers' skills to adapt to teaching needs.

To date, we have successfully trained more than 137,000 teachers through this program.

We also have our Conectadas program, which aims to reduce the gender gap with the use of mobile technology through digital literacy and educational programs that can help promote women's entrepreneurial skills.

From 2017 to 2019, more than 324,000 adolescent girls and women were digitally empowered through our Conectadas programs. And in 2020 , we educated more than 90,000 women through digital training programs that became absolutely critical in the context of tight closures, making digital literacy more important than ever.

Finally, TIGO Communities helps communities thrive by building digital highways, providing digital education, and equipping them with access to technology.

In 2020 alone, we connected more than 2,700 schools and public institutions to provide consistent Internet access across the region with the advent of the COVID-19 global pandemic.

We also recently signed collaboration with the Real Madrid Foundation that will allow us to bring these types of programs to more than 11,200 children and their families. This collaboration over the next 5 years will facilitate the sustainability of more than 65 of the Foundation's social and sports projects in our nine Latin American countries. I am very excited about this partnership because it is based on values that we share with Real Madrid to improve the education and future of children, because connectivity and soccer bring people together.
