Mayor's Office of San Salvador to implement special cleaning plan during Easter Week

Written by Karla Gutiérrez

The Mayor of San Salvador, Mario Durán, has instructed the Solid Waste staff to implement a special cleaning plan during the Holy Week holiday period, to clean up the different religious and recreational activities taking place in the Historic Center and the six districts of the capital.

The plan includes actions prior to the holidays, in the Historic Center where there are 8 churches that attract many Catholic parishioners, which are: Catedral Metropolitana, Iglesia El Calvario, San Esteban, El Calvario, Señora de La Merced, San Francisco de Asís, Nuestra Señora del Perpetuo Socorro and Basílica del Sagrado Corazón.

In the surroundings of these temples, 37 employees began washing sidewalks, street sweeping, cleaning of drains and waste disposal since march 18, to prepare the conditions so that both members of the Catholic community and tourists can enjoy these festivities in the best possible way.

An average of 106 Solid Waste employees will work in three shifts, from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m., carrying out cleaning actions in Gerardo Barrios Street, Cuscatlán, España and Monseñor Romero avenues, around the Catedral Metropolitana and from 5th and 16th avenue South, in the center of the capital.

In addition, street sweeping, and waste collection will be carried out in the six district zones before and during processions and religious events. Also, three teams of the Servicio Especial de Limpieza Urgente (SELUR) will intervene in preferential axes and streets, will evacuate swales, will carry out street sweeping and will attend to citizen complaints.
