MAG will deliver more than 4,300 microinsurances to small farmers in case of crop damage

Written by Evelyn Alas

Each policy is for US$500, an amount that will allow producers to restart their businesses in the event of crop losses due to the aforementioned weather conditions, through the Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería (MAG) and the World Food Program (WFP), a strategic ally of this administration.

Doña María grows fruits and vegetables in Cojutepeque, Cuscatlán, which she sells at the AgroMercado MAG Santa Tecla, and is one of the first 50 farmers who already have their policy, for which she thanked the government support for insurance, since weather conditions are unpredictable in the sector, so she is grateful for the training she received on this type of benefits.

Another of the farmers who received the parametric microinsurance is César Rivas, from Santa Cruz Analquito, Cuscatlán, who thanked the government for its support because it is the first time he has received agricultural insurance, with which he feels more positive to continue with the production of fruits and vegetables.

Rivas sees this initiative as a seed that in the event of any loss will make it easier for him to move forward. "Thanks to everyone involved, to all the government institutions and the WFP, for supporting agriculture", Rivas said.

Meanwhile, the director of Comercio Agropecuario (DGCA) of MAG, Jessica González, explained that this insurance is parametric, because its activation will depend on certain parameters, so the beneficiaries were selected through the DGCA, the Oficina de Vinculación Territorial (OVT), the Centro Nacional de Tecnología Agropecuaria y Forestal (CENTA) and the Centro Nacional de Tecnología Agropecuaria y Forestal (ISTA).
