Tribunal Supremo Electoral explains the documents needed to vote abroad

The presidential and legislative elections to be held in february 2024 are getting closer and closer, so the Tribunal Supremo Electoral (TSE), continues to announce the requirements for salvadorans abroad to exercise their vote.

The Documento Único de Identidad (DUI), or the salvadoran passport will be the documents that can be used to access the ballots. It does not matter where the IDs were issued or if they are not valid, they can always be used.

In the case of the DUI, if you have an address in El Salvador you can vote on february 4 from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm according to the time zone of the country where you reside, and you must go to an assigned voting center such as embassies and consulates or other infrastructure that has been established abroad.

Those who apply in this system will be able to vote in the presidential and legislative elections. The candidates that will appear in the ballot of deputies will be corresponding to the department where the address of the identity document is.

In case of having an address abroad in the DUI, it will be possible to vote from january 6 to february 4 in the TSE website from any electronic device. It is necessary to prove the identity at the moment of entering and after that it will be possible to cast the suffrage, for the presidential election and the deputies of the department of San Salvador.

People who want to vote with their passport, will have on february 4 from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm depending on the time zone of the country where the citizen is to go to a venue designated by the Court, in order to cast their vote. Likewise, those who use this document will be able to elect president and deputies for the department of San Salvador.
