The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has extended from 60 days to 18 months the re-registration periods under the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designations of El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, Nepal, Nicaragua and Sudan.

The 18-month re-registration period under the TPS designation of:

  • El Salvador is now extended until march 9, 2025.

According to DHS the extension of the re-registration period will allow TPS beneficiaries to file Form I-821, Application for Temporary Protected Status, and Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization, at any time during the 18-month extension of the TPS designations of these six countries.

  • TPS beneficiaries under the El Salvador designation may continue to file for re-registration after the september 10, 2023 deadline indicated in the june 21, 2023 Federal Register notice.
  • TPS beneficiaries under the designation of Sudan may continue to file the re-registration application after the october 20, 2023 date indicated in the august 21, 2023 Federal Register notice.

DHS advised that it will soon publish a notice in the Federal Register regarding this extension of the re-registration periods. DHS also noted that this announcement does not change the previously announced extensions of the TPS designations of these six countries, and does not change the eligibility requirements. Instead, it extends the period in which current beneficiaries can re-register to receive their benefits.
