The Índice General de Precios al Consumidor registered a monthly increase of 0.21%.

The Índice General de Precios al Consumidor (IPC) in august 2023 was 129.44, registering a monthly increase of 0.21%, being this variation 0.22% higher than the result of july 2023, according to data published by the Banco Central de Reserva (BCR).

In august 2023, a monthly variation of lesser magnitude than that recorded in august 2022 was observed, where growth was 0.45%, driven by food and non-alcoholic beverages with 0.13%; miscellaneous goods and services with 0.08%; furniture, household items and articles for ordinary household maintenance with 0.07% and restaurant and hotels with 0.06%.

The main year-over-year increases for august 2023, at the division level are observed in:

  • Restaurants and hotels (6.53%).
  • Food and non-alcoholic beverages (6.11%)
  • Alcoholic beverages and tobacco (4.48%).

The five main products that influenced the monthly increase of the IPC in august 2023 are: special and regular gasoline, tomato, onion and diesel; these were offset by the negative behavior of some products, such as: air travel, potato, güisquil, fresh cheese and fertilizer and manure.

The accumulated IPC inflation as of august 2023 was 1.31%, which is lower than that recorded for the same month of 2022 by 4.16%, where it was 5.46%.
