ISSS reported an increase of 103,029 people enrolled in the formal labor sector

According to the Ministerio de Economía (MINEC), El Salvador has reached unprecedented levels in formal employment and in the contribution of local private investment.

As of november of last year, the Instituto Salvadoreño del Seguro Social (ISSS) registered 970,242 workers. According to the same institution, during 2022, a total of 103,029 people were registered as contributors for the first time, that is, the working population joining the formal sector is growing.

The minister of Economy, María Luisa Hayem, explained that the objective for 2023 is to generate more investment in order to have more sources of employment and improve the quality of life of the population.

To achieve this, it is important to create conditions for companies to operate efficiently and continue hiring people. For example, the institutions have made significant progress in reducing costs.

The official explained that the goal is to reach one million formal jobs, a record they hope to set.

Likewise, the minister of Housing, Michelle Sol, explained that they are working to facilitate the paperwork, since so far this year US$1,933 million have been released in permits and feasibility studies.

She said that it is a team effort in favor of development.

Security has been one of the key factors in many areas, including economic activity. In 2022, the construction sector represented 12.5% of GDP, making it one of the fastest growing sectors.

These efforts do not affect or diminish social investment from the State, which remains the highest ever recorded in the country.
