Breast cancer is the most frequent type of cancer and the most common cause of cancer death in women globally.

The prognosis after a breast cancer diagnosis has improved dramatically following the introduction of early detection programs and standardized treatment protocols. Early detection and access to treatment have been shown to achieve substantial improvements in breast cancer control.

WHO's Global Breast Cancer Initiative aims to reduce global mortality by 2.5% per year, and builds on the long-term commitment of breast cancer advocates who are coordinating efforts to advance breast cancer control worldwide.

Breast cancer originates from the uncontrolled and independent growth of cells that form a malignant tumor that can invade surrounding tissues and also distant organs (metastasis) and is recognized as the most common type of cancer.

With the aim of encouraging breast self-examination and early detection, as well as promoting access to timely and effective screening, diagnosis and treatment, the WHO designated october 19 as World Breast Cancer Day.

Early diagnosis, along with advances in treatment, have led to better outcomes for women with breast cancer. In addition, comprehensive prevention and control programs can help reduce the burden of this disease. Health education is essential to improve knowledge and understanding among women about the importance of seeking care.

Having immediate medical attention is vital when it comes to the fight against cancer. And even more so if it is breast cancer, with a high survival rate; hence the importance of reinforcing prevention programs, which aim to raise awareness and promote breast self-examination, medical check-ups and periodic mammograms for early detection, in order to improve prognosis and survival.

Financial prevention can help to face an illness with better opportunities. Insurance can be an ally in this task of protection for the patient's personal and family economy, providing peace of mind and helping families not to get into debt or suffer hardship to cover the expenses involved in fighting this difficult disease.
