Cost of works at the Central Hidroeléctrica 15 de Septiembre reaches US$6.5 million

The Comisión Ejecutiva Hidroeléctrica del Río Lempa (CEL) is working on the reinforcement and protection of a slope located on the right bank of the water turbine outlet of the Central Hidroeléctrica 15 de Septiembre, with an investment of US$6.5 million and generating more than 100 employees in the area, the work continues to avoid affecting the flow of electricity.

These works are intended to prevent landslides and landslides that could cause damage to nearby structures or block the turbine water discharge channel, which could affect the generation of electricity for salvadorans.

In addition, the Comisión Ejecutiva Hidroeléctrica del Río Lempa has repaired a gully that was located in the slab of the discharge channel, significantly improving water flow.

To maintain the environmental flow during this period of the year, during the repair of the discharge channel, water will be transferred from the reservoir through 4 of the 8 gates of the spillway in a controlled and continuous manner, to maintain the ecosystem downstream unchanged.

The works will provide greater stability to the slope on the right bank and thus ensure the safety of the dam.

The Central Hidroeléctrica 15 de Septiembre consists of a 57.2 meter high rock-fill dam, an 8-gate concrete spillway, an integral intake and a surface powerhouse.
