Gasoline prices on the rise, while diesel reduces its cost

Written by Denis Muñoz

The Dirección General de Energía, Hidrocarburos y Minas (DGEHM) shared the new reference prices for fuels, which will be in effect from march 5 to 18. Prices will increase between US$0.01 and US$0.10.

According to the DGEHM, this increase is due to external factors that influence the increase in fuel prices, such as the decrease in the production of oil barrels in the United States, which went from 9.9 million barrels in january to 9.7 million barrels in february, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA).

In addition, geopolitical conflicts in Russia, tension in the Red Sea and the Suez Canal have significantly increased shipping and marine insurance costs, increasing international prices of oil and its derivatives.
