ISSS seeks to recover US$50 million stolen from contributors

The Director of the Instituto Salvadoreño del Seguro Social (ISSS), Mónica Ayala and the Minister of Health (MINSAL), Francisco Alabí, arrived at the Legislative Assembly to present reforms to the Social Security Law.

According to representative Mónica Ayala, these reforms also seek to settle the employer arrears that have been generated during the last 30 years, with an average of US$50 million of theft from ISSS contributors, with which the institution expects to recover at least a part of that arrears.

The director of the ISSS, detailed that, "We are going to be tougher against these companies that make these evasions against the workers".

Likewise, minister Francisco Alabí, indicated that,'' As the rector of the National Integrated Health System, ''we accompany all those actions that improve the conditions of health care''.

The officials indicated that, ''with the modification of the 32 articles of the Social Security Law, they will be promoting, among other things, harsher sanctions against companies that withhold workers' contributions''.

The ISSS indicated that it is working for the recovery of jobs and that on average a recovery of 50,561 workers in the last nine months of 2021.
