Farmers now have access to lines of credit through FIDEAGRO

The basic grains harvest for the period 2022-2023 will begin in the coming weeks and the Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería (MAG), has made significant progress in preparing the optimal conditions to achieve good results.

Access to financing with low interest rates and favorable terms is among those conditions that farmers have required for years. The Central Government promoted reforms to the Fideicomiso Especial del Sector Agropecuario (FIDEAGRO) to offer lines that meet these requirements and also to expand coverage.

The interim head of MAG, Enrique Parada, said that FIDEAGRO is already active. As of this year it can be used for different sectors of agriculture.

The deputies of the Legislative Assembly supported the strengthening of the Banco de Fomento Agropecuario (BFA) to incorporate US$5 million to be used for loans. Along with this contribution, there will be US$60 million available for recipients to apply for.

With FIDEAGRO, they will be able to channel 25 thousand credits, more than US$60 million that will be available to producers, to promote and increase the volume of national production.

The transfer of resources was the step that was missing to be able to apply the modifications that had been previously approved: credits were increased to US$5,000 per user and will now also cover vegetables, fruits, fishing and livestock, in addition to having lines for the harvest of beans and corn.

In addition to financing, the Government launched the Agrotechnological Inputs Program to improve the quality of agricultural subsidies.
