Written by Evelyn Alas

Minister of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG), Enrique Parada, said in a press conference that the institution has deployed 150 inspectors nationwide to verify the price of agricultural inputs, they will focus on those areas where the national agricultural production is concentrated.

MAG teams will visit agroservices, warehouses, distributors and accountants. This action is part of the 11 measures, announced last week by the Central Government, which includes the suspension of import tariffs on 20 products, for one year; among these are fertilizers, since the interest of MAG is to support producers to continue cultivating, thus avoiding production shortages.

These inspectors come from different institutions, such as the el Instituto Salvadoreño de Transformación Agraria (ISTA), and the Centro Salvadoreño de Tecnología Apropiada (CESTA) this is part of the articulated work that the Ministry is doing for the benefit of the population and producers.

The minister also said that salvadorans have reported that some agroservices have increased the prices of inputs.

He added that if in case of finding price increases in agricultural products, the institution will take these actions to the Defensoría del Consumidor so that the law is applied accordingly.
