According to DIGESTYC, the General Consumer Price Index (IPC), in december 2021 was 119.06, registering an increase of 0.11%, said variation is 0.72 percentage points lower with respect to the result of november 2021.

The point-to-point variation is 6.11%, which is 6.20 percentage points higher than that recorded in december 2020, which was -0.09%.

The behavior of the IPC with respect to november 2021, is mainly explained by increases of 0.58% in food and non-alcoholic beverages, 1.04% in recreation and culture and 0.61% in restaurant and hotels, bringing the cumulative inflation for december 2021 to 6.11%, which contributes to maintain a relatively higher inflation level than that recorded in 2020.

This rise is due to the increase in prices of bread, meats, dairy products, oils, fats, sugar and food away from home, which had a direct impact on the index.

Positive price variations in 8 divisions drove monthly inflation upwards, with food and non-alcoholic beverages standing out with 0.58%, recreation and culture with 1.04% and restaurant and hotels with 0.61%.

In addition, for december of last year, the five main products that contributed to the monthly increase in the CPI were fertilizer and manure, chicken eggs, hard cheese, sugar and raw chicken parts.

What is the IPC? It is an index number that measures price changes from one month to another, through the monitoring of a basket of goods and services previously defined and that households buy and use directly or indirectly to satisfy their own needs and desires.
