Economy seeks to streamline exports and imports through SAC trainings

Written by Evelyn Alas

Vice Minister Mario Salazar participated in the webinar on adjustments to the Sistema Arancelario Centroamericano (SAC), applicable to the textile and apparel sector, carried out together with the Cámara de la Industria Textil, Confección y Zonas Francas de El Salvador and the Secretaría de Integración Económica Centroamericana (SIECA), to help streamline exports and imports.

This activity is part of a series of trainings that have been developed to publicize the changes made to the SAC, with the participation of textile and apparel companies in Central America.

The textile sector accounts for 40% of total exports and generates around 80 thousand jobs. It also contributes to commercial and urban development in the municipalities where Free Trade Zone activity is concentrated.

Apparel is an industry that provides high quality products for the international market, and has been dynamic and growing in recent years, despite the conditions derived from the pandemic.

The SAC is the regional legal instrument that contains the list for the official classification of goods and, therefore, its adjustments must be known and managed by the companies involved in intra-regional trade.

The SAC chapters that correspond to the textile and apparel sector cover 923 tariff items, of which 16 were affected by the amendment, so this meeting is focused on making these adjustments known.
