El Salvador seeks alliances and innovation in renewable energy

As part of the VIII Energy Week, Daniel Alvarez, head of Dirección General de Energía Hidrocarburos y Minas (DGEHM),held a bilateral meeting with Francesco La Camera, Director General of IRENA (International Renewable Energy Agency).

Both discussed the important advances that the country has made to transform the energy matrix; they also talked about strengthening IRENA's technical cooperation for El Salvador.

He also met with Andrés Rebolledo, director of the Organización Latinoamericana de Energía (OLADE), during this event held in Uruguay.

Álvarez said: "We want to work together with countries that have great advances in the renewable energy sector".

He also expressed during this week that El Salvador has made progress in clean energy, the installed capacity of the hydroelectric plants of the Comisión Ejecutiva Hidroeléctrica del Río Lempa (CEL) is more than 550MW and of LaGeo around 200MW in geothermal energy, that is only a part of the State, with it we are working on projects to increase renewable energy.
