Chinese fertilizer donation is tax exempt

Written by Miguel Crespín

With 70 votes in favor, the Legislative Assembly approved an exoneration to the Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería, so that it may exonerate the payment of taxes on the donation of 10,000 tons of fertilizers and 7,500 tons of cereals from the People's Republic of China.

The initiative was approved after having been previously evaluated in the Finance Committee of the Legislative Body, where the deputies determined the importance of this donation to maintain the country's food security.

"The donation that the People's Republic of China is making would not be possible without a good bilateral relationship with our country. That nation produces large quantities of cereals, such as rice, and also fertilizers", mentioned Congresswoman Norma Lobo of the Nuevas Ideas party.

The purchased inputs will be administered by the Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería,, which will then make plans to support the country's farmers by distributing the fertilizer received to vegetable and fruit producers so that they can have more tools for their crops.

"Fertilizer is very important for farmers to continue working the land. This benefit is the fruit of the ties of friendship and cooperation between El Salvador and the People's Republic of China. Our votes are ready", said Ricardo Rivas, Chairman of the Agricultural Commission of the Legislative Assembly.
