AES El Salvador and Texaco inaugurated the first electric gas station in the country

Written by Evelyn Alas

AES El Salvador and Texaco inaugurated the first electric vehicle charging station. The new charging station for electric vehicles has been installed at the Texaco "La Skina" gas station, located in the municipality of Santa Tecla, department of La Libertad.

The companies will invest approximately US$1 million to promote the use of this technology, accelerating the future of electrification in the country.

The company explained that there will be 19 charging stations in the country that will be providing this service at a cost of approximately US$6 dollars per 4 hours of charging for electric vehicles.

"The AES charging stations have a charging capacity of 7.4 kW, have a weather-resistant design that prolongs their useful life by 10 years and are equipped with WiFi, which allows monitoring their performance in real time remotely", explained Roberto Sandoval, general director of the División Soluciones of AES EI Salvador.

Roberto Sandoval said that the average electric vehicle can be fully charged in about four hours, providing a range of up to 412 kilometers.

AES and Texaco informed that, during the implementation stage of this project, users will not have to pay for the energy consumed to recharge their cars, thus stimulating the use of this environmentally friendly technology.

To date, AES has installed nine electric chargers in its commercial offices and technical facilities (three in the eastern zone, two in the western zone and four in the central zone), and recently one in the offices of the Ministerio de Medioambiente y Recursos Naturales (MARN) and another in the Texaco gas station.

Abraham Bichara, CEO of AES El Salvador, said: "We are committed to implementing innovation in our operations and providing the country with technologies that will allow us to achieve a more sustainable energy future. That is why electric mobility is one of the most important strategic commitments for AES El Salvador".

By the end of 2021, the energy company will have inaugurated five more electric-powered stations in strategic public access locations such as: government offices, shopping malls, banks, vehicle distribution agencies and gas stations.

"Together with Texaco we share the vision of a more sustainable El Salvador, for that reason we inaugurated our first electro-lane, with the aim of promoting electromobility in the country", said Bichara.

Pedro Sigui, Partner of Grupo NSV and owner of Texaco La Skina said: "We thank AES and Chevron, under its brand Texaco, the trust placed in us to become the first service station in the country that will provide charging service to customers with electric vehicles, we have always supported the generation of renewable energy, that is why in four stations operated by Grupo NSV. We have solar panel infrastructure, which allows us to provide our customers recharge their electric cars for free".
