Gene-Sis of Nuevas Oportunidades for returned migrants from the Eastern Zone to Eastern Zone communicators project

Written by Evelyn Alas

The Nuevas Oportunidades Project began its pilot phase in 2016 and the first phase in 2018, based on an inter-institutional articulation involving the public and private sectors, academia and civil society.

In 2021, the second phase of the project called Gene-Sis of Nuevas Oportunidades began, which will last for four years, with the support of the European Union and in co-execution with the Grupo de Monitoreo Independiente GMIES, in which new elements will be incorporated, such as financial education, labor coaching and business acceleration models for returned migrants and promotion of human rights.

This project will contribute to improving the living conditions of returned migrants throughout El Salvador by generating a support system for human rights, empowerment and productive reintegration.

The main objective of this event is to inform the communicators of the eastern zone of the different supports and benefits to which the returned migrant population of the different communities of the eastern zone of the country can have access through five areas of work:

1. Impact on the implementation and consolidation of the system of certification of competencies with a broad social dialogue.

2. "Facilitation of an effective and sustainable human-centered labor insertion for returned migrants".

3. Promotion of enterprises for the productive reintegration of returned migrants.

4. Sensitization of the private sector in order to generate knowledge and bring opportunities to migrants.

5. Facilitation of intersectoral alliances for the promotion of migrants' rights.

The presentation also included the signing of an agreement with Asociación Fe y Alegría, a strategic partner, which is committed to continuing this project in the eastern zone at the Centro de Formación Profesional in San Miguel, where skills assessment workshops will be held for returned migrants in the following areas: installation of rock board, installation of ceramic tile flooring and cooking.

The objective is to provide tools to the migrant population returning to El Salvador from the United States and Mexico, certifying their experience and identifying those who have in mind the idea of entrepreneurship, which is why UNIVO is already working on carrying out various business model incubation workshops.

Thanks to this solid alliance between Fe y Alegría and Swisscontact, efforts are being joined to improve the opportunities that returned migrants from the east of the country will have to reintegrate into productive life, taking into account the great work experience that these people have developed during their stay abroad, mainly in areas such as construction and tourism.

These skills will undoubtedly be important drivers for the incorporation of new jobs and the establishment of new enterprises in the different municipalities of the eastern part of the country. |
