Ferry service to join eastern zone economic development projects

Written by Evelyn Alas

The eastern zone has become the site of innovative projects that will contribute to attract investments. Among the most emblematic projects is the ferry with Costa Rica.

During the last few days, work has been carried out on improvements and repairs to the facilities of the port of La Union, from where the ferry leaves today to Caldera port, in Costa Rica. After years of inactivity, the ferry is activating the port of La Union.

In addition, this short sea shipping project will improve trade and logistics. The ferry joins other works already underway in the eastern part of the territory, such as the peripheral road, the construction of artisanal docks and the rehabilitation of roads. The Gerardo Barrios ring road is one of the largest investments in recent times in this area.

It is a comprehensive project that includes important road infrastructure to improve connectivity. It includes the first overpass in the entire eastern region, two major bridges and 21 kilometers of highway in total.

The construction of three artisanal docks in different places that converge in the Gulf of Fonseca, in La Unión, is also being carried out. This is another project that will boost La Unión's economic activities and tourism.

In addition to these works, road rehabilitation is being carried out on strategic roads in eastern El Salvador, such as: the Usulután bypass, the Tierra Blanca canton, between San Miguel and La Unión; the Pan-American Highway, between the Lolotique and Moncagua turnoff, San Miguel; the road from Mercedes Umaña to Berlín, Usulután, and others.
