Bancoagrícola pays tribute to indigo with El Salvador: Indigo, the blue gold that forged our identity

Written by Evelyn Alas

As part of its commitment to strengthen the country's identity and unite people in a new way of seeing El Salvador, Bancoagrícola launched the twenty-eighth edition of its editorial project El Salvador un Rincón Mágico with the book El Salvador: Índigo, el oro azul que forjó nuestra identidad.

Bancoagrícola recognizes, through these pages, the struggle and determination of women and men who, with their courage and industrious spirit, together with the richness of the fertile soils, led the salvadoran provinces to a productive boom that promoted autonomous justice.

The indigo economy and society is a substantial section in the course of our history and constitutes one of the fundamental pillars of salvadoran identities.

"For 28 years, through this collection of books, we have given ourselves the task of compiling diverse themes that connect us with our roots and infect us with all the good things that belong to us. As a bank, each of our publishing projects represents a link with El Salvador, a country to which we are committed, and drives us to continue promoting sustainable economic development for the well-being of all", said Rafael Barraza, Executive President of Bancoagrícola.

The book, written by archaeologist and historian José Heriberto Erquicia and a team of professionals under the coordination of Lissette de Schilling, seeks to explain to readers the events and social and economic dynamics of our territory, which during the 17th, 18th and early 19th centuries formed an ethnic, social and geopolitical structure based on the cultivation of Xiquilite, whose product, indigo, transcended to the european courts due to its incomparable quality.

This edition will be made available to key institutions such as Casas de la Cultura of the country, embassies, authorities of the Ministry of Culture and other entities that promote the culture of our country.

Likewise, people will be able to enjoy the virtual launch on thursday, november 11, at 6:00 p.m. through Bancoagrícola's official social networks.

In addition, those who wish to access the book may do so through the website https://www.bancoagricola.com/rincon-magico where they will also find available previous editions of the publishing project El Salvador, Un Rincón Mágico.
"In this way we want to inherit a legacy for current and future generations with this journey through the history of our country. We hope that by reading this edition, readers can explore another aspect of our memory, and find more reasons to feel proud to be salvadoran, because in El Salvador, every corner is magical", concluded Rafael Barraza.

As the bank of salvadorans, Bancoagrícola, through its Cultural Promotion Program, presents El Salvador: ÍNDIGO, the blue gold that forged our identity. With this new edition, the bank continues to set a trend by rescuing and promoting the history of El Salvador.
